Marketing is often confused with selling or purely promoting a product or service. Both are components of marketing but by no means the whole picture.
When you are marketing a product or service you look at the total Marketing Mix (or the 4 P's of marketing - some marketers also refer to the 6 P's of marketing). This includes:
Product (or service), Price, Promotion, Place, People and Processes
